Horse Riding in Reunion Island ...
Horseback riding
The varied landscapes of Reunion Island offer many idyllic settings for horseback riding.
The bridle paths, traced and marked by the NFB and the Maison de la Montagne, will take you between the casuarina trees, the tamarind, the chokes and Vacoas.
Walk, trot or gallop, you can taste at all speeds depending on your level and riding across the landscape: Plaine des Cafres, Plaine des Sables on the massive volcano, near Great Pond in East or the western beaches.

For the record
Probably introduced in the island in the early eighteenth century, horses were mainly used for transporting people and goods. A few years later, around 1830, a so-called Mr. Fisicat gave the first riding lessons in St. Denis.
The Merens, a native horse of the Pyrenees Ariegeoises, known for its easygoing and frank temperament, its agility, sturdiness and rustic character, is the most used riding horse in Reunion. All the climates of the island suit him and he will take you hosre-trekking safely, even if you are a beginner.
