LE DOMAINE DU CAFE GRILLE - botanical and cultural visits in St Pierre

Enlarge the map

The concept of the creators of the domain is to help you discover the history of Reunion Island through its crops, a historical perspective as well as cultural and agricultural heritage ...

Today's Reunion
The guide will take you to explore the rock garden plants, plants for perfume, exotic plants such as colorful ornamental, lianas, orchids and other botanical curiosities ... You will feel the peaceful atmosphere of the bamboo plantation, the freshness of the undergrowth, the beauty of palmtrees and fruit trees.

Reunion "Lontan"
(yesteryear’s Reunion)
Crops that have marked the history of the island will have no secrets for you: coffee, sugar, vanilla, vetiver ... You will see coffee on stalk ("Round Bourbon" coffee), then sundried, and that is the same coffee that you can enjoy at the end of visit. The impressive still distilling geranium or lemongrass provides essential oils which are sold on site.
Traditionally made with the leaves of a red macaw endemic to Reunion, the "straw hut" will give you an overview of our ancestors’ lives with its dirt floor and his "far far", the traditional pantry ...

“La Savane" Coffee Bar
That’s where you’ll find local coffees and the grand crus from around the world, daily roasted on premise: Bourbon pointu "la kour" Bourbon rond “la kour", the Jamaican Blue Mountain and other coffees from other places in the world ... You can also enjoy cocktails and fresh fruit juices, homemade sorbets, not to mention the local delicacies on sale in the counter: sweet potato cannelés, homemade macaroons and other "yesteryear" sweets (coconut cookies, creole pastries ...).

The craft shop
Original souvenirs will allow you to take with you a little bit of our island: handicrafts of the region, essential oils, objects about coffee ...
A permanent exhibition of artifacts will immerse you into the culinary art of coffee and vintage photos will take you a few decades back.
