Which of you has not imagined, on a dream vacation, enjoying a nice meal, with your loved ones, feet in the sand, lulled by the sound of the waves that wash up on the reef? Now imagine a sunset over the lagoon, you may be lucky enough to see the famous green flash. You are in Reunion Island (you might have been in the cool heights, 5000 feet above sea level, a few hours earlier ...), quickly finish your punch and your tuna tartare, and dive into the clear and delicious water of the beaches of the west coast ... unless you decide to continue your digestion on a deckchair.

Reunion Island cannot pride itself on a very rich native wildlife on land and in the air. At sea, however, the variety of tropical fish is impressive. Traditional fishing in the lagoon, highly regulated, does not provide the biggest part of the supply. You will rather find on the stalls and in your plates the result of sea fishing, deep-sea fish for the most part: albacore tuna, yellowfin tuna (locally known as thon rouge), swordfish, barracuda, mahi-mahi, black marlin, sailfish ... depending on the season. The fish curry (cari poisson) is a delight with scented flavors, but you will also find in the menus of many restaurants grilled fish steaks, often served with rice and various sauces to choose from (kaffir lime, vanilla ...). Another option is to eat it raw, in the form of a deliciously seasoned tartare
